SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH

Our clinical staff offers individual, family, and group counseling on a daily basis. The overall treatment focus is to assist residents in achieving and/or maintaining abstinence and to enhance their coping skills. Our program includes anger management workshops, dual-diagnosis groups, and play therapy for children. Each of our clients participates in thorough bio-physical assessments and 12-step groups. The treatments we offer are classified in 3 different categories.

12 STEP GROUPS Throughout the therapeutic process, each client is encouraged to participate in 12 Step Groups i.e. Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholic Anonymous, Alcoholics for Christ, Fellowship Anonymous, and etc. Positive Images, Inc. offers many 12 Step Groups onsite that provide the clients with additional social and spiritual support.

Treatment Works If You Work It... Each person participates in thorough bio-psychosocial assessments that identify both their strengths and limitations that may have an impact on their recovery. This information is used to develop an individual plan of care whereas the client and staff work closely together to establish the focal point of treatment. The treatment process involves utilizing evidence based interventions that will guide the person as they begin their recovery journey. Our motto is "The program works if you work it". This means that in order to make positive changes, the person must actively begin to change their behavior and thinking patterns. Our trained social workers, psychologist, and certified dependency counselors assist the clients through this transition of change.

Types of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment Intensive Outpatient Treatment This service involves the participants’ attending group therapy and didactics, 3 or more days per week for at least 4 hours each day. Group activities include developing a relapse prevention plan and a recovery plan that promotes an understanding of the recovery and dependency process.

Residential Treatment Positive Images, Inc. has two residential facilities for women with and without their children. The program provides intensive therapeutic counseling that includes individual therapy, group therapy, didactics, and family counseling. The ultimate goal is to assist program participants in identifying risk factors that may lead them back to using substances, enhance their coping skills and strategies to prevent or reduce future usage, and to assist the women in meeting their identified treatment goals.

Traditional Outpatient Treatment Individuals needing outpatient services are provided with appointments that are mutually convenient to both them and the staff. Outpatient activities may include individual counseling, group therapy, and didactics. In addition, family members are encouraged to attend our family support group so that they can understand their recovery process and dependency. Positive Images, Inc. believes that substance use dependency affects the entire family and recognizes it as a family disease. Therefore, our staff strongly recommends that family members are involved in the therapeutic process.

HOME BASED SERVICES

Assured Family Services is the only organization of its kind in the United States. In the late 90’s the county of Wayne, Michigan faced a takeover of its juvenile justice services by the federal government. The treatment of pre-adjudicated and adjudicated youth was reduced to only one option – the removal of all adjudicated youth from the community. Having run out of residential spaces in Michigan, the State moved 200 Wayne County youth to other states, resulting in a financial dispute between the State and Wayne County.

Legal and legislative decisions led to Wayne County being offered the opportunity to become a county-run juvenile justice system. This opened the way for collaboration among the county, the court, the prosecutor, the sheriff, and local service agencies. In July 1999, an innovative series of start-up processes were carefully developed in less than six months. Using the latest informational technology, desired measurable outcomes were written into performance-based contracts and a new operational handbook was developed to guide all the partners. This new model, built for speed along with success as an incentive, was created to allow Wayne County to take responsibility for all of its adjudicated juveniles. This radical solution became the Juvenile Assessment Center and Care Management Organization system and seemingly overnight it changed Wayne County’s almost total dependency on out-of-home care. Adjudicated youth were now able to be supervised and treated in their own communities, allowing for close family involvement and intensive case management and coordination.

Because of the unique partnership among the Wayne County Department of Children and Family Services, the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority and the JAC, each department of the JAC is a piece of a larger picture that showcases our commitment to our mission and to meeting the needs of the families of Wayne County.

Positive Images received a contract to provide these services to families of Wayne County. All participants must be referred through Assured Family Services (AFS). For more information: (J.A.C Program information) http://the-jac.org/programs-services/court-jac/

RECOVERY HOUSING

Recovery Housing for people who are newly sober, recovery housing can provide time and support as they learn how to sustain long-term recovery. The housing program is a good alternative because it provides safe and healthy environments that support residents in their recovery.

This community empowers people by providing support as they transition towards living independent and productive lives in their respective communities. Recovery home offers a unique alternative to harm reduction—a component of the Housing First model—for individuals whose main goal is to find a sober living environment. “People, places, things” is a common phrase used in the recovery community. Who we spend our time with, where we go, and the things we surround ourselves with. . .all of these impact who we are and the decisions that we make.

Many times, people in early recovery have to give up everything they’ve known: who they hang out with – friends, significant others and family – as well as where they go and things they do because those "people, places, and things" put them at risk for relapse or continued use. When people are newly sober, they are moving from a culture of depency to a culture of recovery.

Recovery housing gives them the time and support needed to change those behaviors that were required for life and death survival in the culture of dependency. Through a community of support, people practice new behaviors that will help them thrive in their communities and sustain long-term recovery.

It’s a place where people fit in, have common experiences and goals, and can be authentic without having to explain their depency or recovery needs. It’s what home should feel like.
